Balboa classes in Vigo

A close-embrace partner dance born in Southern California in the 1930s for dancing to fast swing on packed dance floors. Elegant, subtle and full of footwork.

Balboa was born in the 1930s in Southern California, in the ballrooms of the Balboa Peninsula (Newport Beach). Because the dance floors were packed and the music was very fast, it was danced in a very close embrace, with small steps and lots of footwork: the movement is concentrated from the waist down and the couple seems to float.

As well as “pure” Balboa there's Bal-swing, which adds turns and moves in open position. It's perfect for the fastest swing tempos and goes really well with Lindy Hop: many dancers switch between them depending on the song.
